I WAKE UP GRIPPING THE blankets, my body full of sweat and my teeth clenched together. This shit seems to happen too often. “Fuck me.” It takes me a moment to shake it off and realize that I’m awake now. Doesn’t matter. I’m already shaken up from the memory and too worked up to relax.

Sitting with my legs over the edge of the bed, I place both my hands on my head and look up to see Alex standing against my dresser.

“I see you sleep like I do; not for shit.” He swallows hard. “I need you to meet me somewhere tonight. I don’t have time to explain. I just need you to listen.” He tosses a piece of paper down next to me and rushes toward the steps, gripping his black bag in his right hand.

“What the fuck, Alex?” I sit up and reach for the paper, confused as shit by his games. “Where the fuck are you going?”

“I have some work to do. I have to go. Just meet me there around midnight.” He stops when he’s halfway up the stairs. He’s nervous as shit for some reason and it gives me an uneasy feeling. “And don’t be late.”

Without another word he jogs up the stairs.

“Are you shitting me?” I rub my hands through my hair, trying to wake the hell up. It must be like five in the morning. I have no idea what the hell Alex has going on, but I have a feeling that I’m not going to like where this takes me.
